Upcycled Art Workshop: Repurposing Books

Join us for a bit of fun and creativity, making cool stuff out of old books!

This Week’s Projects: 1) Book Page Coasters: Cut book pages into square or circles and laminate them to make stylish and functional coasters. 2) Book Page Garland: String together folded book pages to create a charming garland for decoration.

Jessica Colón, founder of For the People and Kids, will bring the supplies. You bring the imagination. This workshop is open to kids ages 5 to 10 - with their grown-ups. A suggested donation of $15 for the first child, $10 per sibling afterward, is appreciated.

About Jessica

Jessica M. Colón's upbringing on her grandmother's farm in the mountains of Puerto Rico instilled in her a profound reverence for nature and ignited her passion for education. When she moved to New York City and became fluent in English, she realized the importance of bridging her two worlds together.

Currently, Jessica serves as co-coordinator at Access Nature Project and oversees the division that reaches out to community organizations serving those in need.  She is also an Educator at The New York Botanical Garden's school programs, where she shares her knowledge and love for nature with students. Additionally, she works as a Museum Educator at the Bronx Children's Museum and Morris Jumel Mansion Museum, engaging children and families in interactive learning experiences.

Drawing from her diverse experiences, Jessica founded For the People and Kids!, an educational company that offers a wide range of STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) classes, kids' gardening programs, day camps, homeschooling programs, and after-school programming. Her teaching approach seamlessly incorporates both English and Spanish, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility for a diverse audience of all ages, from children to adults.
