About the book

Simon the Snail is written entirely in rhyme and children are immediately captivated by the book’s whimsical tone, heartwarming story and vibrant watercolor illustrations. Born into a very loving family who is overjoyed upon his arrival, Simon is adored and admired.  It soon becomes apparent, however, that Simon is unlike other young snails and his mother starts to worry.  In spite of his struggles, his family’s love and support prevail and Simon is ultimately victorious as he overcomes his difficulties.

About the Author

Shari Bitterman is a lifelong New Yorker and a retired elementary school teacher.  She worked for the New York City Board of Education for almost thirty years, where she dedicated herself to teaching and nurturing thousands of students of varying backgrounds who would struggle and face obstacles on a daily basis. Shari has also personally experienced the difficulties faced by families living with developmentally disabled children.  Her daughter's perserverence and eventual success is what encouraged her to create a character like Simon who is able to overcome challenges and inspire others facing similar obstacles.

After retiring, Shari and her family left the city and are enjoying a much more calm and relaxing existence in Rockland county.
