Slide into your weekend with us!
We are delighted to host singer-songwriter Lee Marvin and percussionist Hasan Bakr for an evening of bluesy-jazzy-soulful music here in the bookstore. The duo will perform pieces from their forthcoming album, combining their American and West African roots.
The evening coincides with the release of Lee’s chapbook entitled “Poem-Songs One.” Copies will be available for purchase and signing following the performance.
Tickets are available on a flex pricing scale: $5-15.
Lee’s music draws inspiration from his time spent playing with jazz great Ted Curson, blues legend Pinetop Perkins, master percussionist Montego Joe, acid jazz guitarist Melvin Sparks, the voice of Twin Peaks, Juliee Cruise and Lousiana medicine man Coco Robicheaux. Lee’s first album, Flowers to Strangers by the Lee Marvin Band can be heard on Apple Music, Youtube, and Spotify. Since then Unseen Rain Records has released six albums that feature Lee’s songs.
Hasan has written a collection of works for dance and the media arts and, in July 2023, participated in the Dunham Legacy program at Jacob’s Pillow under the artistic guidance of Mr. Reginald Yates—choreographer whose focus is the dances of the African diaspora. In numerous musical applications, Mr. Bakr has performed with a vast number of musical artists including The Winard Harper Sextet, Snow, Hassan Hakmoum, Zimbabwean Mbira Master Ephat Mujuru, Salieu Suso, Abdullah Ibrahim and Ekaya, The Meditations, Madonna, Rise Robots Rise, Vieux Diop, and many many more.
