Short Attention Span Book Club

Do you have an hour to go deep on important social issues?

Join the Sing Sing Prison Museum and Hudson Valley Books for Humanity for the next round of the Short Attention Span Book Club. This lunchtime reading group is designed for less reading time, more discussion. We dive into tough topics, with particular attention to social and justice related themes. We meet at the bookstore - now every month - on Tuesdays from 12:30 to 1:30 PM.

This month, we’ll be exploring Religion and Incarceration. Our readings will include an excerpt from Down in the Chapel: Religious Life in an American Prison and an essay: Metanoia, by Dean Farello from The Prison Writing Archive. Even if you can’t make it to the book club, we highly recommend both of these texts! Please register using the link below to receive a copy of the readings in advance of the event.

Pre-registration strongly recommended.

With registration, you will receive a short reading assignment, delivered digitally (think article length) a few days before we gather. People can also choose to arrive early to the gathering and read the piece 20 minutes before meeting (copies will be provided).

Come to one, or all! Everyone is welcome. The Short Attention Span Book Club is a nonpartisan event to foster open, inclusive, educational conversations about incarceration and social justice related topics; we will be civil and respect one another’s viewpoints.

Future Short Attention Span Book Clubs will be held on: December 17, and January 28.
