Join us for a rare opportunity to experience Maringotka, the four-person gypsy jazz group visiting from their home country of Slovakia.
Maringotka’ (which means ‘Caravan’ in Slovak) is Gypsy Jazz band from Slovakia, that plays its own compositions - music mainly inspiredby gypsy jazz and its founder Django Reinhardt, blended with elements of Traditional Slovak folk music, Brazilian Choro and straight-ahead jazz.
Juraj Havlik plays Brazilian music of Milton Nascimento & Joao Gilberto and his own songs inspired by the Brazilian 1970s music scene and by poems of Fernando Pessoa.
Maringotka was formed in 2010 in Slovakia on Django Reinhardt´s 100th Birthday. In 2013, Maringotka won the Bratislava Jazz Days Festival Competition (the biggest jazz festival & event in Slovakia) and was featured as the opening band of the festival. In 2018 the band released its first album ‘Poza Bucky’ which was well received by the critics and the public. Maringotka has played in many jazz and acoustic concerts in venues across Slovakia, Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary, and Brazil. Currently the band is working on new compositions, preparing a new album that should be released in 2024.
Members – Robert Schranz (acoustic guitar), Juraj Havlik (acoustic guitar), Pavol Matej (violin), Robert Ragan Jr (bass). The program will begin with Jurak playing a few songs of Milton Nascimento for the first 20 minutes. Then, following a brief break, the full group will perform in concert.
