The Road to Home Ownership for People of Color

Please join us at the Ossining Public Library for an important opportunity to educate yourself and the community on purchasing a home and closing the racial wealth gap. According to a 2019 study by consulting firm McKinsey and Co., in the United States, the median family wealth (assets less debt owed) for white families is 10x that for black and Hispanic families, a gap that has been growing substantially over the last two decades. This gap leads to continuing wealth disparities and a lack of long-term investment in lower-income neighborhoods.

Anthony Bailey, Executive Director of the Bailey Initiative and a Yonkers resident, seeks to narrow this divide by educating, advocating for, and informing people of color on how to obtain residential real estate in our area. Co-sponsored by Hudson Valley Books for Humanity, this two-hour workshop will give you the information and resources you need to begin or further your road to home ownership. Topics to be discussed are:

· Obtaining and sustaining a home

· Down-payment programs

· Cost-effective lending options

· Policies that drive access for affordable home ownership

Anthony Bailey has a background in social impact investing and will provide the basics of not only becoming a homeowner, but also sustaining a home. His program seeks to have participants own a home in 18 months through lessons on building credit and seeking homebuyer assistance programs.

NOTE: This program is taking place in the Budarz Auditorium of Ossining Public Library. Registration is required; please follow this link.
