Silvia Siller, A Mexican Poet in New York

Bienvenidos a Silvia Siller!

We are delighted to welcome Mexican poet Silvia Siller to our stage, where she will talk about poetry and her creative process as an immigrant. Widely recognised for her Spanish-language poetry, Silvia is also an accomplished flamenco dancer and political memoirist.

Silvia will read from her works in Spanish and conduct the Q&A in both English and Spanish. Copies of her books will be available for purchase and signing.

SILVIA SILLER (Spanish)

Escritora mexicana. Estudió Relaciones Internacionales en la U. Iberoamericana y la Maestría en Columbia University en Nueva York. Además tiene diplomados en literatura hispanoamericana y ha estudiado flamenco por más de 20 años. Tiene varios poemarios publicados, dos reconocidos en el International Latino Book Award  (2015-2016) y uno finalista del concurso Entreversos (2017) Danza de Cuatro Brazos dedicado a la danza. Ha sido  participante de antologías, festivales y recitales de poesía en Nicaragua, El Salvador, México, Chile, EU, Colombia, y más. Su poesía acompañó la obra Man(o)rar en el Museo Franz Mayer en México y el Museo Textil de Oaxaca. Premio G. Mistral, J. Burgos y F. Kahlo otorgado por el grupo Galo Plaza en N.Y. por su contribución a la cultura latinoamericana. Tiene un libro reciente de narrativa es "El día que el cortés dejó de florecer" de memoria histórica editado por la editorial Ojo de Cuervo del Salvador. 

SILVIA SILLER (English)

Silvia Siller — México — is a poet, artist, communications consultant and translator. Finalist of the Entreversos contest (2017) in Venezuela with her poetry collection Danza de 4 brazos published by New York Poetry Press. She has six poetry collections; Mariposas y Mantis (2014), Early Morning No. 5 (2015), Tandava with poet Edgar Smith (2018), Danza de cuatro Brazos (2019), La Granada Ebria (2019) and a recently published political memoir "El día que el cortés dejó de florecer". Her books have been recognized at the International Latino Book Award 2015 and 2016. She received the G. Mistral, J. Burgos and F. Kahlo Award from the Galo Plaza group in New York for her contribution to Latin American culture in New York in 2015. Recently featured as Mexican author of the month by CUNY last may 2022. She has a Masters in International Relations from Columbia U. and a Certificate in Latin -America Contemporary Literature. She has produced theater-flamenco- poetry. Her poetry accompanied the exhibition Man(o)rar by Luciana Corres at the Franz Mayer Museum (2018) in Mexico City and at the Textile Museum of Oaxaca (2017). Participant of multiple international festivals: Nicaragua, FIL Guadalajara, Colombia, Chile, New York, Spain, El Salvador and Costa Rica.
