Take a break from the dark days of winter and join us for a fun evening of summer camp stories and a discussion of the process of creating a graphic novel with Croton cartoonist Eric Glickman and his brother, Richie - plus a book signing, canteen snacks and 70s music!
Camp Pock-a-Wocknee and the DYN-O-MITE Summer of ‘77 is a coming-of-age graphic novel celebrating the magic, memories, and mishegas that make up summers at Jewish sleepaway camp. Mashing up a nostalgic mood similar to The Wonder Years with the teenage rambunctiousness of a Superbad, Camp Pock-a-Wocknee combines black & white, comic strip-style art with a “not-for-kids” story to capture the tension created when the innocence of childhood crashes into the messiness of adolescence.
Books will be available for purchase and signing. The event is free, but we appreciate early RSVPs to help with planning. Please click here to register.
About Eric and Richie
Eric Glickman is a long-time resident of Croton where he and his wife, Melissa raised three children. After graduating from Syracuse University with a BFA, he worked for 37 years as a creative in advertising and helped convince millions of people to eat fried chicken in a bucket, meaty soup in a can, and cheesy crackers shaped like fish. In May, he will receive a Masters degree from NYU in Art Education+Community Practice.
Richie Glickman is also a long-time resident of Croton and continues to be a creative in the advertising industry. Throughout their childhood, Eric and Richie spent 8 weeks every summer at Jewish sleepaway camp in rural Pennsylvania.
