Author Event with Ellen Cassedy, Working 9 to 5

HVBH Presents: 9 to 5, the Movement Behind the Movie.

We are thrilled to bring to our humble stage Ellen Cassedy, the founder of the iconic and revolutionary women’s movement, 9 to 5. Ellen will read from her new book, Working 9 to 5: A women’s movement, a labor union, and the iconic movie, talk about her tireless efforts to win dignity and higher pay for our nation’s working women, and take your questions. The event includes a Dignity@Work contest. Win a free book!

Following her presentation, our guest moderator Antoinette Klatzky (VP of Programs and Partnerships at the Eileen Fisher Foundation and former co-chair of the Westchester Women's Agenda) will facilitate audience Q&A. Don’t be shy!

Copies of Ellen’s book will be available for purchase and signing. This event is free, but we ask you to RSVP here for planning purposes.

About Ellen

Ellen Cassedy is the author of Working 9 to 5: A women’s movement, a labor union, and the iconic movie, with a foreword by Jane Fonda. She was a founder of 9 to 5, the national association of working women that won millions of dollars in raises and back pay – and made countless bosses get their own coffee. She is the author of several books and was a columnist for the Philadelphia Daily News, where she wrote a column on “work from the worker’s point of view.”

Working 9 to 5 is a lively and personal account of how a determined group of women organized and achieved more than they ever imagined. They transformed offices across America and inspired the Hollywood blockbuster movie and Dolly Parton’s enduring anthem. AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler calls the book “a must- read for any activist or reader in search of inspiration.” Historian Lane Windham says: “Exactly the right book at the right time.”
