Our Story
Anyone who knows Amy will say she’s devoted to social and environmental impact. She picks up trash on the Hudson River, she rides a bamboo bike, and she advocates for ethical supply chains through her job at EILEEN FISHER.
Amy never particularly aspired to open a retail store.
Everything changed in 2021 when she was cleaning out her family’s bookcases. As the stack of no longer wanted books grew higher, Amy felt there must be a “second life” for pre-loved books in good condition. And, given her background in social justice - combined with the emerging activism in Ossining and surrounding towns - the inspiration for Hudson Valley Books for Humanity began taking root.
Amy’s vision for the store starts with putting the voices of women, People of Color, and other marginalized communities front and center. She also wants to support the talented artisans making their living in the Hudson Valley. And she believes in creating a vibrant space to showcase literary and artistic talent from the region.
This is the vision for Hudson Valley Books for Humanity. And we can’t wait to welcome you to our space.
